Civic and Energy Park Eisleben: ideas workshop at “Advent in Luther’s Courtyards”

The topics of urban development and the pre-Christmas season came together on 13 December 2025 at the Malzscheune in Lutherstadt Eisleben as a successful duo. As part of the traditional “Advent in Luther’s Courtyards”, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and the City of Eisleben hosted an ideas workshop and presented student designs for the NEB_PROJECT Civic and Energy Park Eisleben to the public.

Many visitors took the opportunity during their festive stroll through the city to view the exhibition of the works and to engage in conversation with one another as well as with representatives of the city and the university. Prof. Nicole Uhrig from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Head of Department and Deputy Mayor Sven Kassik, and Head of Division Pia Ryll answered questions, explained the background and contextualised the concepts.

Between April and July 2025, students of landscape architecture worked on possible redesign concepts for the more than 100-year-old city park, originally created by citizens. Site visits were carried out, a citizen survey was conducted, and initial concepts were developed collaboratively. The focus was on reactivating and revitalising the urban green space, creating more areas for movement and social interaction. The proposals ranged from a green classroom, a playground and a new stage to the creation of viewpoints, a new and barrier-free path network, and the integration of existing individual monuments such as the Gate of Admonition – all embedded in an ecologically enhanced, climate-adapted park of high heritage value.

It was important on this day to communicate that these were initially designs and not concrete plans. However, the wishes, suggestions and memories of the citizens, as experts on their park, are intended to be incorporated into the future design. For this purpose, a questionnaire was also distributed on that day. Conclusion: combining the exhibition with “Advent in Luther’s Courtyards” gave the format a special atmosphere and proved to be a successful way of bringing the NEB_CRITERION “Together” to life.
