Year in Review 2025

A busy and successful year for the New European Bauhaus in Saxony-Anhalt is drawing to a close. It was a year of valuable encounters and exciting events that show how many people already here in Saxony-Anhalt, across Germany and throughout Europe are living the idea of a New European Bauhaus and putting it into practice. With their ideas, they are actively shaping the path towards climate neutrality. And entirely in the spirit of the historic Bauhaus: developing progress through the unity of culture, science, art and technology.

2025 is the year in which the first eligible NEB_PROJECTS received their funding approvals and were finally able to get started: the family centre in Kleinpaschleben, the civic and energy park in Lutherstadt Eisleben, the EARTH-BUILDING-CULTURE project of Schwemme e. V. in Halle (Saale), and the LandKiez in Thondorf. Saxony-Anhalt’s largest NEB_PROJECT to date, the Zekiwa Zeitz Living Lab (RZZ), also began its work together with its consortium partners and the City of Zeitz. In April, the state launched a further funding call via the EU Just Transition Fund (JTF), creating a new starting point for outstanding project ideas that advance the state by linking industrial heritage and the NEB. By December, a total of twelve projects ha

The NEB_NETWORK OFFICE served as a visible point of contact and closely accompanied the developments. It was present on site, brought actors together and strengthened exchange and collaboration. Proven formats contributed to this: NEB_ONTOUR became established with stops in Kleinpaschleben and Halle (Saale). NEB_MEETS, with inspiring guests such as Christopher Dell, made visible how crucial COLLECTIVE action on multiple levels is.

A highlight followed in September with the visit of the EU Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Sachariewa, to the ZEKIWA site in Zeitz. As early as June, the Peer2Peer meeting with guests from Brussels at the Schwemme Halle (Saale) brought European perspectives into the state. Conversations, exchange and new contacts strengthened the network beyond state borders. In addition, Saxony-Anhalt showed a presence at the New Bauhaus Visionale, at 100 Years of Bauhaus Dessau at the State Representation in Brussels, at the Silbersalz Festival in Halle (Saale) and at the exchange of the BMFTR “Room for Change – Rethinking Cities” in Bonn – to name just a few stops.

Those who would like to learn more about the state initiative #NeueBauhäusler can find information on the website www.neuebauhaeusler.com. In addition to up-to-date NEWS posts, concrete project insights can be found under NEB_PROJECTS. In-depth formats such as the series “The project is us” are published via the social media channels. Here, the people in front of and behind the NEB_PROJECTS are given a face and a voice. Monthly updates and event information are bundled in the newsletter. In all of this, the goal remains clear: to create visibility and to bring the NEB_FAMILY Saxony-Anhalt together and move it forward.

Saxony-Anhalt has set out on its path with its state initiative #NeueBauhäusler and has gained momentum. The values BEAUTIFUL. SUSTAINABLE. TOGETHER. are being carried into the state through the NEB_PROJECTS – and are award-worthy! Schwemme e. V., with its project EARTH-BUILDING-CULTURE, won the STADTUMBAU AWARD Saxony-Anhalt in November 2025 and, on behalf of all, was able to carry the NEB_VALUES into Saxony-Anhalt’s urban regeneration landscape.

The NEB_NETWORK OFFICE thanks all those involved in NEB_PROJECTS, the partners working in the consortium, all friends and the entire NEB_FAMILY for their tireless commitment and wishes Merry Christmas and a healthy and successful New Year 2026!
