Background
What is the NEB_PROJECT SALTSA about?
The SALTSA project develops a cooperative usage concept for the currently unused areas of the listed Saline ensemble in Halle (Saale). The aim is to further develop the site as an open place for learning, experience, and encounter that connects its historic identity with the future needs of the urban community.
Located on the Saale island between the Old Town and Neustadt districts, the Saline holds particular urban significance. In the future, it is intended to function more strongly as a connecting place – between tradition and transformation, between culture, education, and civic engagement.
At the heart of the project is a participatory development process: together with local initiatives, institutions, and the interested public, perspectives for the future use of the site will be developed. Both heritage conservation qualities and new forms of sustainable use and organisation will be taken into account.
Launch of the participation process
The public event on 30 April 2026 marks the start of a multi-stage participation process. In this first phase, the focus is explicitly not on final solutions, but on questions, ideas, and shared perspectives for the future development of the site. The event provides an opportunity to
- learn about the project and its timeline,
- gain insights into initial results from preparatory work steps,
- contribute expectations and ideas for future uses,
- and engage in dialogue with stakeholders from municipal administration, culture, academia, and civil society.
An invitation to reflect and shape the future together
The future development of the Saline depends on the engagement of the urban community. The kick-off marks the beginning of an open dialogue about the potential of this special place. Interested participants are warmly invited to learn more, join the discussion, and actively contribute to shaping the process.
